The "Cute One" has still got it!
Arriving at 6pm, we found a line "waiting to get in the door" all the way around the venue. That was NOT fun, considering the heat and humidity. With no published start time, I suppose everyone decided to show up when the doors were supposed to open. Someone goofed that all up.
Finally getting in the door, we were extremely happy with our seats and view. Loved that he came out wearing a jacket reminiscent of The Beatles 1960's collarless jackets! Blackbird was especially moving and the stage set was great.
I was happy he had a great mixture of Wings and Beatles songs as well as some new music. Although I had seen him in 1993, this concert was far and away my favorite. Interesting he played one song with digitalized faint picture of Obama on the screen behind him. He never mentioned anything political (unless you count "Give Peace a Chance).
Loved the Magical Mystery Tour painted piano he brought out towards the end of the nearly 3 hour show. He even came back for 2 encores! He had amazing stage energy for a man of 68! Told some really great stories and connected well with his audience.
There seemed to be a majority of folks 40-70, which would include me. I would be interested to see the demographics of the audience. I was happy to see a good many people of a generation whose first songs by Going Bacharach: The Songs of an Icon were probably 1980's singles like Say Say Say with Michael Jackson.
Considering the last time he was in the Carolina's was 17 years ago and he IS 68 years old, I kept reminding myself this was probably the last time I would see him live and tried to soak up every moment! Worth every penny! I can always say now that I have sung "Give Peace a Chance" while holding up my fingers in a peace sign with a real live Beatle!
